Okutama

Along with the Tanzawa mountains, the mountains in the Okutama area are the "big two" in mountain ranges easily accessible from Tokyo and suitable for beginner hikers.

The Okutama mountains can be characterised by lots of trees. Personally I'm a little biased against tree-y mountains, but I know some hikers who love being amongst them so I guess it's a matter of personal preference!

I made it a goal to climb 8 of the most famous Okutama peaks for the 奥多摩ハイカー (Okutama hiker) YAMAP badge, which I completed in 2023, so I'll be updating this page with those hike reports as I write them!
